July 23rd - T minus 6 and counting!

With all the media comment on the 40th anniversary of the moon walk of July 1969, I thought the title for the first posting from the US was rather appropriate!

Yes, it's only six days to go, and I am now down to the last few things to do on the car before we head for the San Francisco region next Wednesday.

I've just fitted the stickers I had made for the cars showing the route all the way up the west coast of N.America.

The route from Malibu to Anchorage

The flight over on Tuesday was very uneventful and we arrived at LAX fifteen minutes early. Unfortunately the drive up to the house, which should take about an hour, took twice as long because a power outage in Malibu had stopped all the traffic lights, and the resulting jam up the Pacific Coast Highway was horrendous.

Today we head into Santa Monica to do some last minute shopping for items such as bug jackets to help protect us from the mosquitoes which live in the tundra regions of Canada and Alaska.

It's looking like our son, Edward, will be joining us for one week of the trip. We are making arrangements for him to fly to Fairbanks and then drive with us to Prudhoe Bay and back to Fairbanks, from where he will return to Los Angeles.

On Sunday our friends Bob and Thelma will be flying in and staying with us until we leave on Wednesday.

To counter the criticism I have had from members of the family that I do not post enough photos of people, I will post a group photo before we head out.
