After I posted to the blog the day before yesterday afternoon, we went on a short drive back along the Dalton Highway to see if we could see any wildlife. About 15 miles out of Deadhorse our phone rang and it was Bob & Thelma who had parked about five miles further along the highway watching a musk-ox.
In five minutes we saw them, and close by was this magnificent musk-ox.
They are wonderful looking animals with large horns and a long shaggy coat. The musk-ox walked up to Bob’s car and then past him. We took more photos as it ran away from us.
We decided to drive further up the road to see if we could ‘intercept’ it again. When it saw where we were it turned away from the river and crossed the road. We found a lay-by and waited for it to approach us. Edward was then able to take some incredible close up photos.
Dare I say it once again, another highlight of the trip?
Finally, a photo of the sun setting at over Prudhoe Bay, at 11pm.
A four-thousand-five-hundred mile drive from Malibu in California to Anchorage, Alaska. The route goes via Vancouver Island, the Inside Passage, Juneau, Skagway, Fairbanks, Prudhoe Bay (Arctic Ocean), Denali National Park and finishes in Anchorage.
